This Privacy Policy explains how Japa Mala handles information when you use the application.
1. Introduction
Japa Mala is a digital mantra counting companion for Android devices, built to help you count japa rounds of the Hare Krishna Maha-Mantra.
We built Japa Mala to work entirely on your device, with the smallest possible data footprint. This policy describes exactly what that means in practice.
2. Personal Information
Japa Mala does not collect any personally identifiable information such as your name, email address, phone number, or postal address.
You do not need to create an account, sign in, or provide any personal details to use any feature of the app.
3. Japa and Counter Data
Your japa counts, completed rounds, daily history, and streaks are stored only in a local database on your own device.
Your app preferences — such as theme, language, and reminder times — are also stored locally on your device.
This data is never transmitted to us, uploaded to any server, or shared with any third party. We do not have access to it at any point.
4. Device Permissions
Japa Mala requests the following Android permissions, each used strictly for the purpose described below:
Vibration — used to give haptic feedback when you tap a bead and when you complete a round of 108.
Notifications — used only to deliver the morning and evening japa reminders you configure yourself in Settings, and the optional lock-screen chanting notification. We do not use notifications for any other purpose.
Schedule Exact Alarms — used so that your reminder notifications arrive at the exact time you set, rather than an approximate time.
Run at device startup (Boot Completed) — used only to re-schedule your reminder notifications after you restart your phone.
None of these permissions are used to collect, transmit, or share any information about you.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
Because all data is stored only on your device, it remains entirely within your control at all times.
Uninstalling the app, or clearing its data from your device's Settings, will permanently and irreversibly delete all japa history and preferences. We do not keep a copy anywhere, because we never receive this data in the first place.
6. Internet Access
The core japa-counting features of the app — counting beads, tracking rounds, viewing history, and reminders — work completely offline and do not require an internet connection.
An internet connection is used only when you choose to open an external link from within the app, such as visiting this website, the Google Play Store listing, or the developer's contact/social links on the About screen.
7. Third-Party Services
Japa Mala does not currently use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking service. No data leaves your device to any external company.
If a third-party service (for example, Google AdMob for advertising) is added in a future update, we will update this Privacy Policy in advance of that release to clearly describe what data that service collects and how it is used, in line with Google Play's requirements.
8. Children's Privacy
Japa Mala is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Since the app does not collect personal information from any user, this protection applies equally regardless of the user's age.
9. Data Security
Because your japa data never leaves your device, it is protected by your own device's security (such as your screen lock) rather than by any server we control.
We take reasonable care in how the app is designed to avoid unnecessary collection or exposure of information, though no software can guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy will be updated whenever Japa Mala adds new functionality that changes its data practices, such as introducing ads, analytics, or an online account system.
The latest version will always be published on this page, with an updated "Last updated" date at the top.

Important
Japa Mala currently does not display ads, use analytics, or require sign-in of any kind. If advertising (such as Google AdMob), analytics, cloud backup, or account login is added in a future version, this Privacy Policy will be revised before that version is published, and this notice will be updated to reflect the change.
